Fused Glass
Raised in Santa Cruz, California, Marylin Nelson grew up in 4-H and Pony Club, nurturing a love of animals and the outdoors.
She earned a double major in Chemistry and Biology at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas, and returned to Santa Cruz for
graduate studies in Microbiology at San Jose State University, where she met her husband in the Entomology "bug room.".
After completing her Clinical Laboratory Science licensing, Marylin spent 46 years working in hospitals, including Sonora
Adventist Hospital, while raising a daughter and finding ways to keep her creative spirit alive. Her first artistic passion was
photography, developing black-and-white and color prints in the darkroom before moving into Photoshop and fine-art printing.
She later earned a Graphic Arts Certificate from Columbia College. Once her daughter left for college. Marilyn and her sister
traveled nationwide to learn fused glass, mosaics, lapidary, and silversmithing. Since retiring in 2019, she has added watercolor
painting to enrich her glasswork. Marylin’s fused glass pieces draw inspiration from nature, light, and texture. Influenced by
many accomplished glass artists, she creates unique, vibrant works that bring warmth, color, and character to any home.
