Maggie Bevier
California Watercolorist
Born on the Central California Coast, raised by professional Carmel watercolorist Jack Bevier, my life has always been full of art. During my 45 years of professional art practice I’ve been fascinated with the properties of watercolor in capturing color and light. I enjoy the magic in placing a stroke here, a wash of color there, and leaving a flicker of white paper untouched in order to create a bunch of tiny abstract patterns which gradually coalesce to reveal detailed impressions of California. Some might see my art as more traditionally pictorial, but if one looks closely, tiny abstract and impressionist elements can be seen. After earning a BA in Art with honors and several teaching credentials from Humboldt State University in the early 1980’s along with a MA in Art from San Jose State in the 90’s I’ve pursued a career as both an artist and art instructor in Northern CA. My watercolor paintings have been and continue to be exhibited in galleries and shows between Mendocino and Monterey counties on the coast and in Gold Country to the East where they have won awards. Upon retirement from teaching in 2016, I acquired a cabin in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I am blessed to be able to spend my time enjoying a creative life making all types of art and painting the CA scenery I love in-between our homes in the mountains and on the Central Coast. The way watercolor mixes and flows together never ceases to enchant me. I chose the word enchant purposefully as the process of making art is magical for me. I hope that you experience some of that magic in viewing my work. Maggie's work can be viewed online at www.mbevierarts.com
