Richard and Kathleen Imlach

Richard and Kathleen Imlach's medium is in the metal and ceramic arts. They collaborate on pieces utilizing both modern metal fabricating technology and age-old blacksmithing techniques. Inspiration often comes from found metal objects that become key features and focal points in their work. Their blending of steel and discarded metal brings to life familiar images in the biomorphic form. They take satisfaction from taking rigid heavy materials of great strength and transforming them into movement and dimension in space. Their work is both functional and for pure fun and visual enjoyment.
Richard and Kathleen have studied blacksmithing and metalworking in both California and New Mexico. Richard studied art at San Francisco Art Institute and Kathleen has taken a variety of art courses at Columbia College. Their works have been on display at various shows, galleries, and wineries in Tuolumne, Calaveras, and Stanislaus Counties as well as in Glen Ellen in Sonoma County.
They are owner operators of Steel Dog Metalworks located in historic downtown Sonora, CA at 346B West Jackson Street. Their studio has a gallery which is open by chance or appointment by calling (209) 770-5795.
