Joy Willow is an ‘abstract naturalist’ painter inspired by the dialogue between land forms and lines, between the unconscious and what actually occurs on the canvas. She builds her pieces from a textural substrate, adding layers of acrylic paint, collage, and organic line to create an internal sense of place.
Joy’s education includes degrees in music and literature as well as many private teachers in music and wonderful mentors in art. She continues to be active as a performer and teacher of music. Two of her collections of poetry were published recently. All three disciplines seem to speak to one another in surprising ways.
A member of TCA and the Motherlode Art Association, Joy was on the board of Sonora Art Trails. Her work has been exhibited in many galleries and collected by private and corporate clients.
