Jeannie Philbin was born in San Pedro, California. Her earliest artistic influence came from her mother, who was an artist.
Jeannie began her art career as an interior designer. After 20 years she decided that her art was more important and now spends hours a day pursuing this essential part of her life. She is a member of the Mother Lode Art Association and Operations Director for the Aloft Art Gallery.
While she loves to paint landscapes throughout the United States, her inspiration today is from the Sierra Nevada Foothills and Tuolumne county where she resides. Her paintings have a strong drawing base, coupled with a free impressionistic style of brush strokes.
Jeannie always says “my canvas is like a good book and I hate for it to end. Therefore the slow pace of studio painting suits me…..but…the excitement of Plein Air painting stimulates me.”
She also collects pre 1970’s miscellaneous papers, books, letters and stamps. After hand coloring these papers, she meticulously tears these hand-painted pieces of history and puts them together to form a collage and calls this painting with paper.
