Watercolor
My childhood was spent in England, Spain, Morocco, Thailand, and Newfoundland. Eventually we settled in San Diego which began my love affair with the beaches, mountains, forests and deserts of this amazingly beautiful and diverse state. For almost forty years, I lived and taught in South Lake Tahoe, and after retiring, I found my forever home in Tuolumne. I also discovered my bliss—watercolor painting. The beauty of Tuolumne County has had a profound effect on me, and it brings me joy to capture on paper what nature paints first. Watercolor is my choice of medium because it lends itself so well to landscape. The colors, the textures and the mood of the scene dictate the washes, the strokes and the tones. Before painting, I first need to know a place or landscape personally, and that becomes my objective— to recreate not only how a place appears, but the emotions it evokes.
