CHERYL L PRICE
Mosaics & Mixed Media
Although, Cheryl L Price enjoys dabbling with collage art and painting, she is predominantly a mosaic artist. Because she painted first, her mosaics have more of a painterly feel and fall into the style of mosaic realism. She shows and sells her style of mosaics in art shows, the Aloft Art Gallery and online.Cheryl recreates moments that bring her joy. She loves the beautiful textures and hues of the outdoors and joyful depictions of children and caring adults. She enjoys the interaction of nature and people and captures it in her work.
Cheryl spends time exploring local rivers and lakes of the Sierra Nevadas and has a passion for wildlife. The deer she observes from her deck, the river otter she encounters while kayaking on the Stanislaus, or the great white egret she watches from the shoreline are images she loves to recreate.
Sometimes Cheryl thoughtfully chooses her subjects and plans the overall composition meticulously drawing in the contour lines of the mosaic. She carefully selects the tessera mindful of the colors and values in the glass.. Then other times, although beginning with a general idea, the mosaic takes on a life of its own as she adapts to the beautiful hues in the glass...With both scenarios Cheryl painstakingly attaches each piece of tessera onto the substrate of choice, However, from the initial idea to the sealing of the grout she asserts that the creation of each mosaic is a labor of love.
Cheryl continually reads, takes classes and experiments with new ways to create mosaics. She now shares this knowledge through teaching mosaics to children and adults.
